NSA has led the development of a new and innovative secure web-based Internet incident or event management and coordination solution that combines two basic needs. The first need is to provide a level of rigor and accountability in multi-site and cross organisation communications during times of crisis. The second is to provide a highly reliable system. The incident and event management and coordination solution called Virtual Communication Centre (VCC) was developed in collaboration with public safety agencies in Australia and also in cooperation with Ontario Ministry of Health.

The VCC network was designed to operate in the emergency services sector providing interoperability between all public safety agencies, government agencies, non government organisations, utilities and critical infrastructure groups and eliminating the current issues of agencies operating from different communications platforms.

This is an Australian innovation which has arisen through collaboration with the public safety agencies in direct response to the recognised limitations of existing public safety communications systems. The system was used by the Ontario Ministry of Health during the G8 and G20 Summits in Canada in June 2010.
